Short-listed for a Royal Philharmonic Society award, the week-long project featured many favourites from the LMP education and community programme, including “Storytime” for the playgroup and for local mums and toddlers, an evening talk for the Women’s Institute, a full day of creative music-making at the primary school, an informal concert in the lounge of the local sheltered housing unit, concert-demonstrations in the primary schools of nearby villages, and a “jam” session for local musicians of all ages led by composer Fraser Trainer who also led a major composition project at Swavesey Village College to create music for performance by GCSE music students as part of a newly commissioned work given its world premiere in the final celebration concert. The grand finale of the entire residency was the performance by the LMP and the newly formed community choir of a Mozart Mass, bringing to a close a week which had left hardly a single resident of Swavesey untouched by music.
