TUNE IN TO THE LMP ON BBC RADIO 3 Posted: 31/03/2011 Make sure to tune in to BBC Radio 3 on Monday 4 April at 7.00pm to hear the broadcast of our concert with Chloë Hanslip performing the Dvorák Violin Concerto. LONDON MOZART PLAYERS NOMINATED FOR SOUTH BANK SKY ARTS 2011 AWARD Posted: 14/12/2010 As with Voices and with Tears, composed by Tansy Davies and performed at Portsmouth Cathedral by the LMP and Portsmouth Grammar School with conductor Andrew Cleary, has been nominated for a South Bank Sky Arts 2011 Award. Commissioned specially by Portsmouth Grammar School for Remembrance Sunday 2010, it has been nominated alongside the BBC Philharmonic and Halle orchestras, for their joint Mahler Season between January and June 2010, and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, for The Mahler Edition in the Classical Music Category. The ceremony is being held at The Dorchester on 25 January 2011, and will be broadcast on Sky Arts 1 HD. We're keeping our fingers firmly crossed! For more information, see here. FLY AWAY MOZART! Posted: 26/01/2011 To celebrate 100 years of flight and the 255th anniversary of Mozart's birth, the LMP are joining forces with students from Woodlands Community School in Southampton. Inspired by the contrasts between a teenage RAF pilot and a teenage Mozart, the students will premiere two new works on 27 January 2011, at Southampton Airport. For more information, please click here LMP JOINS FORCES WITH LOCAL SCHOOLS FOR ANNUAL CONCERT Posted 19/01/2011 Monday 24th January is the annual London Mozart Players Schools Concert, and sees the culmination of our Start project with the Prince's Foundation for Children and the Arts, which has been running over several months. Working with 7 local schools in Croydon, the London Mozart Players have introduced music to children who wouldn't normally have this opportunity. LMP PROGRAMME ARCHIVE Posted 26/10/2010 From this season we are putting our concert programmes for our concerts iin Fairfield Halls on the website about a few days before the concert, in case people would like to have a look at the works the orchestra will be playing. Posted 02/08/2010 This December the LMP is off to Germany for a tour with conductor David Stern and pianist David Fray, a French rising star signed to EMI Classics. The main work for the tour is Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 25. For details on the concerts, please visit our International Tours page.
SARAH BURNETT APPOINTED PRINCIPAL BASSOON Posted 18/06/2010 Sarah Burnett has been appointed as the LMP's new Principal Bassoon. She succeeds Gareth Newman who left the orchestra in 2009. Sarah has been working with many orchestras, such as London Philharmonic, BBC Symphony and Royal Philharmonic, and is currently also Principal Bassoon at Britten Sinfonia. She has given recitals at Wigmore Hall, Fairfield, Bridgewater Hall and Purcell Room.
HILARY DAVAN WETTON APPOINTED ASSOCIATE CONDUCTOR Posted 05/05/2010 The London Mozart Players has appointed Hilary Davan Wetton as its Associate Conductor. Hilary first conducted the orchestra in 1969 and has had a continuing relationship with it ever since. Recent performances have included a most successful series with Roger McGough narrating his own poems for Carnival of the Animals. In recent years the LMP has worked regularly with Hilary and enjoys a productive and highly successful relationship with him. In his new role, Hilary will be involved in the LMP's highly successful residencies in Lincolnshire and will help to develop the orchestra's relationships in its home community of Croydon. Hilary Davan Wetton is well known as the Conductor/ Presenter of the Classic FM Masterclass series and as Jo Brand's organ teacher for the BBC TV series Play It Again. He is Music Director of the City of London Choir and Conductor Emeritus of the Milton Keynes Orchestra and the Guildford Choral Society. His most recent recording (In Terra Pax, with the CLC and the Bournemouth Orchestra) reached number 2 in the classical charts last Christmas.
LMP RECORDING WINS CANADIAN JUNO AWARD Posted 19/04/2010 On Saturday 17 April 2010 the LMP won the Juno Award in the category Classical Album of the Year for the recording of Mendelssohn's Concerto for Piano and Violin, Shostakovich's Piano Concerto No. 1 and Canadian composer André Mathieu's Concertino No. 2 with Canadian pianist Alain Lefèvre and violinist David Lefèvre on the Analekta label. The recording is available from the LMP Office for £10, plus P&P and can be ordered by emailing cds@lmp.org. LMP CHAMBER ENSEMBLE PERFORMS AT CROYDON CLOCKTOWER Posted 05/05/2010 The LMP Chamber Ensemble returns for another exciting concert in Braithwaite Hall at the Croydon Clocktower. The concert has a slightly unusual line-up this time of viola, cello and bassoon. They will play a selection of works for this combination of instruments. The musicians will join you afterwards for tea and a biscuit. Tickets are £12 (£10 concessions) and can be booked through the Clocktower website.
FAIRFIELD PIANO FUNDRAISING CONCERT Posted: 08/04/2010 Fairfield is organising a fundraising concert on 14 April 2010 at 7.30pm for the purchase of a new Steinway grand piano. The existing Steinway has served the Hall well for over 30 years, but it needs replacing. Pianist John Lill, the LMP and conductor Hilary Davan Wetton are teaming up for a wonderful concert of piano music. The programme includes Beehoven's Piano Concerto No. 4 and Moonlight Sonata, Liszt's Sonata in B minor and Elgar's Salut d'amour. JULIETTE BAUSOR APPOINTED PRINCIPAL FLUTE Posted: 15/02/2010 Juliette Bausor has been appointed as the LMP's new Principal Flute, replacing Michael Cox. Currently Juliette is also Principal Flute for Northern Sinfonia at the Sage, Gateshead. Juliette studied flute with Anna Pope at the Purcell School of Music in London before attending the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where her flute professors included Philippa Davies, Paul Edmund Davies and Samuel Coles. She went on to further her tuition at the Conservatoire Nationale Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris, with Sophie Cherrier and Vincent Lucas. RICHARD STILGOE AND PATRICIA HODGE JOIN LMP FOR CONCERT IN EASTBOURNE Writer and perfomer Richard Stilgoe and actress Patricia Hodge join the LMP for a weekend in The Grand Hotel in Eastbourne. They will be reciting Walton's Façade on Saturday 6 February. We are delighted that these very distinguished performers are joining us for this wonderful piece! Other works performed that weekend are Brahms's Sextet No. 1, Mozart's Sinfonia Concertante and Bruckner's String Quintet. This weekend takes place from Friday 5th-Sunday 7th February. Tickets start at £273 per person for the weekend, which includes two concerts, accommodation for two nights, most excellent breakfasts, two table d’hôte meals with the musicians, afternoon tea on the Saturday and plenty of sea air! LMP IS CHARITY OF THE MONTH AT WAITROSE CROYDON We love our local Waitrose here at LMP HQ. It's across the road and it has yummy food. We now love them even more. We have been chosen as one of the three local charities this January! If you shop in the Croydon branch, all you need to do is make sure you receive a green token when you pay for your shopping and put it in the Community Matters boxes next to the exit. Recently the LMP announced its new Music Director. South-African born Gérard Korsten starts as the new artistic figurehead of of the orchestra from 2010/11.
