Another orchestra, another Beethoven Cycle. However, this is one with a better pedigree than most.
The LMP is internationally renowned for its definitive performances of the core Classical repertoire. After a busy time with Mozart last year, the LMP is sounding better than ever, while Stephen Kovacevich is acknowledged as one of the greatest interpreters of Beethoven performing today.
The first concerts have already drawn critical praise:
'[Kovacevich] directed a fiery performance of the Symphony No. 1 and the more expansive No. 2 unfolded with scarcely less vigour... He is a wonderful musician with more to say than many a big-name baton-waver.'
Sunday Telegraph, March 2007
'…the joy of hearing the First and Second Symphonies translated by this extraordinary musical imagination … and the cadenzas were simply magical.'
Independent on Sunday, March 2007

- It includes all Beethoven’s symphonies and piano concertos, as well as many of his overtures and one of the Violin Romances.
- All seven performances will take place at Cadogan Hall, London, and each concert will be repeated at various other venues around the country.

'In a period when Beethoven interpretation has become fairly standardized, Kovacevich remains a free spirit, making a profoundly personal response to the music and playing in an improvisatory style, which fits descriptions of how Beethoven performed his own music.'
