Jeremy Metcalfe

Second Violin No. 6

Jeremy Metcalfe joined the London Mozart Players in 2002

Where else do you teach/play?
My lack of ability in the field of second position has always held me back with regard to teaching. I have never been employed in this capacity. I regularly appear with all the major orchestras in west Kent.

Where were you born?
In Leek.

How old were you when you started playing, and why did you take up the violin?
I was eight at the time that I discovered that it was mainly girls who played the violin.

What has been your most fun/interesting musical experience so far?
Too few to mention.

Who have you enjoyed working with the most and why?
My collection of pencils acquired over 20 years in the profession, a collection regarded with both envy and bitterness by some colleagues. This mean-spiritedness has indeed afforded me much pleasure in my darkest moments.

Do you play any other instruments?
The school piano and I do share a particularly close rapport.

Do you have any hobbies you manage to fit into your spare time?
When I'm not out birding and taking photos, I do enjoy playing the violin.

Where is your favourite holiday destination?
If Norfolk had the odd mountain range, was moved to warmer climes and had Pizza Express in more locations, then we'd be approaching something acceptable.

What's your favourite sound?
Alan Green, Radio 5 Live, Saturday afternoon, 4:55pm screaming out "That's Everton's eighth! Surely that's the last we'll see of Arsenal for quite some time!"
