Ian Fasham joined the London Mozart Players in 1993
Where else do you teach/play?
I don't do any teaching these days (although I was at Mill Hill School and Belmont Prep for 22 years!). Because I am a bass trombone player in a chamber orchestra, programmes dictate that most of my work is freelance rather than with the orchestra so I find myself often working with different people every day. This can be anything from symphony orchestra concerts to opera, education work to film sessions. Sometimes nothing at all!
Where were you born?
Rochester in Kent.
How old were you when you started playing, and why did you take up the trombone?
I started when I was 11, having been recruited by the brass teacher at school.
What has been your most fun/interesting musical experience so far?
Very difficult to answer. There have been many experiences that for one reason or another I will always remember with affection. (And some that I won't!)
Who have you enjoyed working with the most and why?
I enjoy working with many people, and all for different reasons, so it's impossible to be more specific.
Do you play any other instruments?
Contrabass trombone (never in Mozart Players!!!) I also double on tuba and euphonium for theatre work.
Do you have any hobbies you manage to fit into your spare time?
I run regularly, and try to fit in a trip to the theatre and perhaps a meal out now and again.
Where is your favourite holiday destination?
The Greek Islands.
What's your favourite sound?
Depends very much on my mood.
If you weren't a musician what would you be?
I've often thought about this, and I can never come up with a good answer. I suppose I could do lots of other things, but would I really want to?
