Where else do you teach/play?
Quartet coach, Birmingham Conservatoire.
Where were you born?
Harlow, Essex.
How old were you when you started playing, and why did you take up the violin?
Seven years old. Always wanted to, but I don't know why.
What has been your most fun/interesting musical experience so far?
Difficult one to answer: working with the amazing Greek musician George Hadjinikos competes with working with Maxwell Davies on each new quartet that he writes for us.
Who have you enjoyed working with the most and why?
The two above-mentioned have been most inspiring and mind-changing, but there have been many others: working with Howard Shelley when he directs from the piano is like chamber music, and working with Andrew Parrott on Haydn and Mozart has been very refreshing.
Do you play any other instruments?
No.
Do you have any hobbies you manage to fit into your spare time?
Too occasionally flying remote control airplanes with my two sons, reading, and watching old boxing videos.
Where is your favourite holiday destination?
My Father's place in Nagano, Japan.
What's your favourite sound?
Isaac Stern on the violin G string.
