Ben Chappell joined the London Mozart Players in 2002
Where else do you teach/play?
London Musici, Britten Sinfonia, London Session Orchestra.
Where were you born?
In London.
How old were you when you started playing, and why did you take up the cello?
Nine years old.
What has been your most fun/interesting musical experience so far?
The Rambert Dance company put on a production some years ago using musicians on stage taking part in the action. This was a very exciting challenge and of course the stately musicians had a hard job keeping up with the lithe and athletic dancers. It is amazing to work with artists in other fields that are at the top of their profession.
Who have you enjoyed working with the most and why?
I am a great fan of Alasdair Malloy and his concerts for children. The concert [June 2005] on a nautical / Pirate theme was a huge success. Thousands of children utterly involved in music and theatre. It is a joy to take part in.
Do you play any other instruments?
Not professionally.
Do you have any hobbies you manage to fit into your spare time?
My hobby now is my family.
Where is your favourite holiday destination?
Too many to mention.
What's your favourite sound?
My daughter’s laughter.
What would you be if you were not a musician?
I have no idea.
