Introduction

In February 1949 the London Mozart Players gave its first concert in Wigmore Hall, London. It went on to become one of the best chamber orchestras in Europe. Now, 60 years on, the LMP is thrilled to be able to celebrate this diamond anniversary.

The orchestra has an interesting and rich history, which can be read here.

Not only does the LMP celebrate its anniversary this season, it also commemorates the bicentenaries of Mendelssohn's birth and Haydn's death. Jane Glover, former Music Director of the LMP, returns to the orchestra in May to celebrate her birthday with Haydn's Creation in Cadogan Hall and a birthday concert in Fairfield, with two Mozart Symphonies.

In February 2009 the LMP returns to Wigmore Hall for a special 60th anniversary concert. This concert showcases both string and wind sections of the LMP as the programme consists of Mendelssohn's Octet and Mozart's Serenade for 13 Wind. Fraser Trainer has been commissioned to write a new work and this will use the orchestra's past, present and future. More details about this concert can be found here.

2009 also marks twenty years of the LMP in Croydon. In the past twenty years tens of thousands of people have enjoyed LMP concerts in the beautiful acoustics of Fairfield Hall and our musicians have given countless performances in care homes, nurseries, sheltered housing, schools and hospitals. The concert on 18 March celebrates all this and the LMP has invited some Fairfield favourites to join the orchestra for the festivities. More details about this concert can be found here.

Anniversary events will be added to this page throughout the season.
