Notes from a small island

A programme of quintessentially British music, in the 50th year since Vaughan Williams' death. His music is suffused with his love of the countryside, steeped in the melodic shapes of his native folk tunes and coloured by a deep romanticism - and two of his most evocative works are paired in this concert. These are prefaced by the tender music by Vaughan Williams' best friend Gustav Holst, and a richly romantic masterpiece by Bliss, inspired by his honeymoon in Italy. One of London's leading choirs and an outstanding young violinist bring freshness and an array of ravishing sounds to this enticing concert.
